Scion Racing is no stranger to racing at one of the most prestigious races, not only in this country, but the entire world: the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. On June 28th, this 12.42-mile race held in Colorado Springs, CO has drivers and teams coming from all over the world in an attempt to “Race to the Clouds” and set a record in the process. Evasive Motorsports and GReddy have both built cars to compete, showing the performance capabilities of the Scion FR-S and Scion tC. Evasive’s FR-S was built originally for time attack racing, but did the PPIHC last year under the awesome driving skills of Robert Walker; GReddy campaigned a tC a couple years back and had Ken Gushi pilot a FR-S at last year’s event to a stunning performance that incorporated some of his drifting skills to move through the course with impressive speed to help him earn a Third place podium finish in his category.
This year, Scion Racing is looking to Mackin Industries and Robert Walker to see if their FR-S demo car can handle the job in 2015. A collaborative effort between Mackin, Evasive and GReddy, the FR-S (which was first debuted at the 2013 SEMA Show, used in time attack and has received plenty of media coverage throughout the world) was rebuilt by Evasive using all-new GReddy hardware to create a more durable and powerful engine (one that can stand up to the high altitude); they also added a new V-mount radiator setup and center exit exhaust, plus they upgraded the transmission, suspension and braking, all crucial elements needed to campaign a successful race car to take on Pikes Peak.
The Mackin FR-S is sporting an updated look as well; Evasive added aero enhancements to the existing Rocket Bunny body kit, including new air intake ducts and a front APR splitter/canards to the bumper. This is Scion’s fifth consecutive year at Pikes Peak and we can’t wait to see the car in action. We’ll have coverage coming shortly after the race!
We sit down with Brandon from Bowls Los Angeles to talk about what went down in Japan running the Evasive FR-S at Tsukuba Circuit. So much happened in a short period of time, it was one of the craziest events we’ve ever done. We managed to run a 59 second laptime but there is more to the story than just the time. Evasive Motorsports is now an authorized dealer for Victory Function aero parts for EVO X and FRS / BRZ. The EVO X front and rear fenders feature a +15mm and +20mm track to accommodate a more aggressive wheel fitment and vent to reduce wheel drag and air extraction. The FRS / BRZ front fenders feature a +20mm width increase that offers an easy solution to run a square setup on the car. The fenders offer a full fender replacement and is a direct bolt on to the OEM bumper without any modifications. These are available in FRP and CFRP. CFRP is special order and requires an additional wait time of 3-4 weeks.
Last night we installed a Voltex Type 7 Swan Neck GT Wing on the GReddy Scion FR-S! We took some pictures of the installation process which requires cutting into the trunk to fit the clamshell reinforcement for added strength. These reinforcements are pre-drilled and also act as templates for drilling the trunk for an easy install. This ensures accurate points for mounting the wing as well as reducing flex to a minimum. Evasive S2000 v.2 at GTA / SLB 2014. We were able to set the fastest time ever on a street tire S2000 with a 1:51.77. This video shows the progression we have made over the years and we will continue the push the limits of this great car.
Edit: Evasive FR-S placed 2nd in Limited RWD class, running a personal best time of 1:47.474. Making it the fastest FR-S time recorded at Buttonwillow Raceway. The car is down on power compare to our competitors as we are running an off the shelve supercharger unit which limited our power output to a little over 400whp. We are still stoked about the time and looking forward to improve on it for 2015 season.

Evasive Motorsports finished 2nd place in limited RWD and street RWD driven by Rob Walker! The FR-S finished with a 1:47.474 and the S2000 V2 finished strong with a 1:51.7.
